Facilitator Development Workshop (FDW)

If you have completed an Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW), then you may be interested in becoming a facilitator and offer ISWs at your institution or organization. To become a facilitator, your institution or organization must support your pursuit of the FDW and that you will become part of the team offering ISWs. Through the Facilitator Development Workshop (FDW), you will gain facilitation skills suitable for the ISW, with those skills being transferable to other facilitative work. As with the ISW, the FDW takes an experiential learning approach to provide you with new facilitation approaches and to receive feedback from colleagues. You will take on four roles, as a learner, instructor, facilitator, and participant. Upon completion of all requirements of the program, you will receive a certificate.

To apply for the program, fill out the following form and an application will be sent to you.

About me

I have been an ISW facilitator and trainer for over 16 years. ISW facilitators are trained to provide a supportive and enriching environment for faculty, adjuncts, administrators, graduate students, or those teaching in organizations. Through highly effective facilitation techniques and opportunities for feedback, I will ensure that you have what you need to be successful.

I have over 18 years experience in Educational Development in Higher Education and over 35 years related to workplace learning. As the former Director of Teaching Excellence at the University of Victoria, I garnered significant experience in developing programs and courses, teaching undergraduates, graduate students, and professors, and mentoring many about learning and teaching in higher education. In 2017, I was honoured with the Educational Developers Caucus Leadership Award for my national work related to educational development. My research focuses on early career academics’ first teaching in the academic workplace. This work and my expertise has been and continues to be shared with institutions around the world, such as Canada, the United States, China, Uganda, Pakistan, and Ghana.
