Get Started

Welcome to the ISW+, a community hub to share ideas, resources, ask questions, connect, and collaborate. ISW+ is a dynamic, evolving space where those who have successfully completed the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) to come together around a shared purpose about what was learned in the ISW.

In this space, you can connect with peers, continuously access resources, and refine your teaching skills.

Take part in the following when suitable for you:

  • Participate in the discussion forum: post questions or comments, recommend resources, and respond to your peers’ postings
    • For example, questions and topics can centre around:
      • What effective Bridge-ins have you used in your course?
      • Which technology tools have you used for post-assessments in an online course?
      • Have you been able to design interactive learning activities for an online course that work well?
      • How have you implemented pre-assessment into your language course?
      • Do you combine any of the BOPPPS elements? For example, Bridge-in and Pre-assessment?
  • Access resources: based on participants’ demands, up-to-date resources will be continuously posted
  • Community polls: occasionally, polls about relevant topics will be issued and results displayed for all to see.
  • Share your experiences: a core value of the ISW is to be a reflective practitioner and critically assess your teaching experiences. Feel free to share your ongoing experiences in the discussion forum.
  • Support your peers: in the spirit of the ISW, acknowledge your peers’ successes.
  • Join an ISW teaching observation group: this is where you can relive the ISW by joining a small group and have your peers observe your real-time teaching (or you can try out a new aspect of BOPPPS with only your peers) and provide constructive feedback
  • Establish relationships: show up for your peers and initiate collaborations
  • ISW upskilling: access modules to expand your teaching skills related to BOPPPS lesson elements. New modules will be added twice a month.
    • For example:
      • Diving deeper into Bloom’s Taxonomy and learning outcomes
      • Exploring examples of Classroom Assessment Techniques to expand your post-assessment strategies
      • Digging into active learning strategies for various scenarios
      • Investigating ideas about how to effectively pre-assess your students
      • Assessing tried and true ways to begin lessons with captivating bridge-ins
      • Mining the value of delegating time for reflection and summarizing a lesson
  • Attend online synchronous gatherings: join peers online for discussions about current topics related to teaching and learning using the ISW framework. Look for announcements about these ISW+ members only events.
  • Take advantage of AMA: monthly “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) sessions on the last Friday of every month. Dates posted below.
